However a 5-3 win over the same opponents in Saturday night's opener coupled with the outcome of the rematch means the Giants came away with three points out of a possible four.
On Sunday Doug Christiansen's side were twice behind but they fought back to force overtime.
There was no further scoring and the Panthers edged home in the subsequent shoot-out.
After a scoreless first period Robbie Sandrock levelled the Panthers' opener with 1.23 on the clock in the second.
Then Scott Champagne equalised with 6.34 left of the final 20 minutes to force overtime.
