David Scullion put Eddie Patterson's side ahead on 4 minutes, with a delightful lob over goalkeeper Graeme McKibbin.
Number two didn't come until just short of the hour mark, Callum Birney volleying home from Richard Clarke's corner.
Clarke's header made it 3-0, before substitutes Jordan Hughes and Niall Henderson rounded off a fine night for the Oval club.
The defeat sees Ards fall to the bottom of the table.
Warrenpoint Town moved above them on goal difference - despite losing 2-0 at Linfield.
That result saw David Jeffrey's side rise off the bottom.
After a scoreless first half, Linfield took a 1-0 lead just a minute into the second half, Michael Carvill hammering home.
And then on 79 minutes, Niall Quinn made the Blues' points safe.
Ballymena United shocked Portadown with a 2-1 win at the Showgrounds.
The Ports took the lead on 21 minutes; Gary Twigg's initial shot was superbly saved by Dwayne Nelson, but Darren Murray followed up.
Michael McLellan then levelled for Ballymena against his former club after his half-time introduction.
And then three minutes from time, United were awarded a penalty.
That was scored by Alan Teggart after McLellan was hauled down by David Miskelly.
Glenavon are up to fourth in the table after winning 2-0 at Ballinamallard - David Rainey and Kyle Neill scoring in the second half.
And the points were shared at Seaview as Crusaders and Dungannon Swifts drew 1-1.
Gary McCutcheon put the north Belfast side ahead on 54 minutes after being teed up by Timmy Adamson.
However Ryan Harpur's 67th minute goal, after Crues goalkeeper Sean O'Neill failed to reach Cameron Grieve's ball, saw the points shared.
