A single penalty shot from Stephen Garrett made the surprising difference between the two sides, as he fired his kick past Elliot Morris.

The referee awarded Newry City the spot kick after Colin Nixon was judged to have committed a foul in the Glentoran area (see video).

The Glens drop to second place in the Carling Premiership, one point behind Crusaders while Linfield move to third after losing to Ballymena United.

Next Saturday, Glentoran face Linfield at The Oval for their traditional Big Two Boxing Day clash.
