Tony Grant, who scored the winning goal in the 1997 Irish Cup final, scored the winner at Mourneview Park to put Glenavon into the quarter- finals of the competition.

Glenavon 2 - 1 Institute

Glenavon took a 32nd minute lead through Trevor Molloy. A cross from James Costello was cleared out as far as Hugh Dickson. His half volley bounced, Molloy got the flick on and diverted the ball past Gavin Cullen.

Four minutes before the break Stute were back on level terms, Joe McCready scoring from all of 25 yards with Glenavon keeper Andrew Plummer left stranded.

Glenavon had a good shout for a penalty when Paddy McLaughlin seemed to haul down Costello in the box but referee Trevor Moutray waved play on.

The second half was, in terms of quality, as poor as the first but Glenavon still dominated.

Molloy hit the post with a come come shot on 55 minutes after controlling a Jay Magee corner.

The winner came on 87 minutes as Molloy put Grant through on goal, rounded Cullen and slotted home.
