The Elite League Champions defeated last season's winners in the first of their two clashes at the Odyssey Arena this weekend, they face the Panthers on Saturday for a final league game.

Man of the match Craig Peacock scored the Giant's first two goals, which were followed by a further three from Jeffrey Szwez, Colin Shields and Darryl Lloyd.

Home fans turned out in force and extra seating was installed in the arena's East End for the sizeable travelling contingent from Nottingham.

The Belfast team have the Challenge Cup in their sights and take a three goal-lead into Tuesday's second leg.

Meanwhile, a host of Giants are in the running for Elite League awards.

Kevin Saurette has made the shortlists for both Player of the Year and Forward of the Year, while Stephen Murphy is in with a shot as both British Player of the Year and Netminder of the Year.

Calvin Elfring and Robby Sandrock are both named on the shortlists for Defenceman of the Year.

And Paul Adey is up against the Hull Stingrays Sylvain Cloutier and Jeff Hutchins of the Dundee Stars for Coach of the Year.
