An early goal from Giants captain Jeremy Rebek got the home side off to the best possible start and they held the lead for the remainder of the game.
Rebek fired them in front on the powerplay at 3.08 before a strike from Craig Peacock doubled their advantage at 14.22.
The third goal came from Graeme Walton at 28.58 - but the Stars pulled one back on 31.49 when Jeff Hutchins netted on the powerplay.
However the Belfast side's three goal lead was restored just over a minute later by Robert Dowd, and while Dundee responded through John Dolan on 46.01, a further two at 48.05 from Darryl Lloyd and then Jeff Mason at 57.18 rounded out a comfortable victory for the Giants.
Coach Doug Christiansen told UTV he was pleased with the overall performance.
He said: "We got the job done and the team played well in all three areas for the majority of the evening.
"There are still some things to work on but looking forward I'm pleased with the effort and pleased with the win."
The Giants are now five points clear of chasers Nottingham after the Panthers were defeated 4-2 at home to the Cardiff Devils.
Fife Flyers stay bottom of the table after losing 2-1 to the Sheffield Steelers, while Braehead Clan beat Hull Stingrays 3-1 to make it four wins in a row.
