The win means the title could be decided on the final day of the season next Sunday when the Giants travel to the Skydome to play Coventry.
Giants goaltender Stephen Murphy posted an amazing eighth shutout of the season on Sunday night as the Giants controlled the game from start to finish.
The Giants could have won more convincingly had it not been for some super saves from Capitals goaltender Cody Rudkowsky as the shot count of 59 to 16 suggests.
The Giants got off the mark on 9.41 as Jeff Szwez fired home before adding another on the powerplay at 13.37 to take his tally to 35 now this season.
George Awada added a third right on 36 minutes during another powerplay and Craig Peacock wrapped the scoring up at 38.49
The Capitals didn't give up though, they were heavily outshot by 20 attempts to 4 in the third period but managed to concede no further goals.
The Giants now have two games remaining against Newcastle Vipers on Saturday night at the Odyssey before what could turn out to be the Elite League decider against Coventry on Sunday.
