After the Vipers had gone ahead Jeff Szwez pulled the visitors level, but goals from Mike Berry and Mark Rooneem put Newcastle 3-1 up.

Craig Peacock clawed one back for the Giants, but Matus Petricko scored early in the final period to put the game out of reach.

The result condemned the Belfast side to their third defeat in a row.

The two sides meet again at the Odyssey Arena on Sunday where the Giants were 11-3 winners earlier this month.
