But it was a close call as the home side trailed 4-3 with just 11 seconds of the final period remaining.
The Dutch side took the lead early on after a defensive mix up but Darryl Lloyd levelled matters when he tipped in Robbie Sandrock's slap shot.
Tilburg made it 2-1 during a power play but Adam Keefe scored to tie the scores after the opening 20 minutes.
Former Giant Josh Prudden restored the Tilburg lead only for Greg Stewart to equalise to leave it 3-3 at the end of the second period.
Tilburg again went in front in the final period but Mark Garside forced overtime with a last gasp equaliser.
Brock Matherson hit the winner to give the Giants a morale boosting victory ahead of the new season.
