Elite League champions the Belfast Giants fell to their first defeat of the season when they were beaten 2-1 by the Sheffield Steelers.

Craig Peacock opened the scoring for the Giants in Sheffield at 3.01 on Sunday night after assists from Robbie Sandrock and Will Colbert.

But the Steelers drew level on 11.28 through Tom Sestito during a power play while Scott Champagne was in the penalty box.

The winning goal was scored by Steven Goertzen just 19 minutes into the second period during another power play after Graham Walton had been penalised.

However Doug Christiansen's side stay top of the table despite the result after their nearest rivals the Nottingham Panthers lost 3-1 in Coventry.
