By the half-way point in the game another victory for the league champions looked to be on the cards with the Giants leading 4-1.

Two goals from Colin Shields coupled with strikes from Robby Sandrock and Kevin Saurette put the away side into a dominate position.

However, the Steelers came out intent on getting back into the game with Drew Fata and two goals from Jeff Legue levelling the game after Rob Dowd's first period goal to send the game into overtime.

A penalty shootout was needed to settle the game after five minutes of overtime and Chris Blight's first goal was all that was needed to give Sheffield the victory.

The loss was the first taste of defeat for the Giants since a 3-2 loss to the Dundee Stars at the beginning of January.
