The Belfast Giants started their busy post-Christmas period in style with a crushing 7-2 win over the Braehead Clan in Scotland on Monday night.

The first period saw the scoring opened for the visitors, courtesy of Graeme Walton - but the Clan answered less than two minutes later on the powerplay to tie the game.

Adam Keefe netted in the dying minutes of the opening period, to ensure the Giants took the lead into the break.

It was the Giants who dominated the second period, with Jeremy Rebek, Craig Peacock and Darryl Lloyd all firing goals past the Clan netminder.

Lloyd comes out and plays hard every shift, and I’m pleased his hard work is paying off in such a big way.

The home side had to settle for just one more goal, again on the powerplay, to end the period 5-2.

The Giants didn't stop there though and the third period saw two more goals from Darryl Lloyd to give him his second hat-trick on the bounce.

"The increased ice time given to Lloyd over the last couple of games has given him the chance to play in key situations and he has taken advantage of the opportunity," Giants General Manager Todd Kelman said.

"He continues to play his hard-hitting, in-your-face style of play and he's burying the puck when he gets the chance."

The Belfast side return to home action at the Odyssey Arena on Tuesday night - and they're bringing the Clan with them.

The Scottish side will be out for revenge when the sides face off again at 7pm.
