The visiting side were beaten 3-2 by Braehead Clan, with the hosts quick to open their account.
Clan captain Ash Goldie was first to get his name on the scoresheet, capitalising on a powerplay to net less than four minutes into the game.
And it took just two minutes to double the score, with another powerplay goal coming courtesy of Robert Farmer.
The second period saw the Giants quick off the mark though, in their bid to even things up, and Daymen Rycroft pulled one back in a powerplay of their own inside the first minute.
But a penalty shot awarded to the Clan saw Adam Walker beat Giants netminder Stephen Murphy to restore the home side's two-goal lead.
Robby Sandrock netted just after 55 minutes gone to close the gap for the Giants, but - despite even pulling their netminder - it just wasn't enough.
The Belfast Giants begin their defence for the Elite League title next weekend, travelling to Nottingham to take on the Panthers.
