Frampton was crowned champion in front of an electric crowd at the Odyssey, after becoming the first person to knock out Kiko Martinez and taking his European Super Bantamweight belt as a result.
"I'm feeling good, little bit sore - sore hands, sore head, sore ribs. But it's good to be sitting here with the belt," he said.
Frampton went into the bout feeling like he had something to prove and now says he did just that.
"A lot of people expected me to win the fight, but other people were thinking it might be a step too far," the 25-year-old said.
"But I proved something. I proved I can fight on the inside, I proved I can take a good shot, and I proved that I have a big heart - it was a tough fight and I had to dig deep at times."
There's talk that a world title eliminator could be fought on 11 May and Frampton says, while that is a possibility, so is a straight fight for the vacant title.
In the meantime, sespite receiving congratulatory messages from the likes of golf's number one Rory McIlroy and top boxer Amir Khan, the support of those closer to home was also much appreciated.
"It's great - I got a text message off Stephen Baxter, the Crues manager, as well which was nice," Frampton laughed.
