UTV understands that Gerry Flynn will return as Newry City manager on Monday, following the departure of former boss John McDonnell.
McDonnell and his assistant Harry Fay left the club by "mutual consent", Newry City confirmed hours after a 4-1 defeat to Crusaders at Seaview.
In a statement the club said: "Newry City Football Club can confirm the departure by mutual consent from the club of the first team management set-up of John McDonnell and Harry Fay. The club will make no further statement at this time."
McDonnell took over at the Showgrounds in September 2009 following Flynn's resignation.
He brought former Dungannon Swifts boss Fay in as his assistant but the pair have failed to impress this season.
Newry is currently occupying 10th spot in the 12-team league table.
McDonnell picked up just nine points out of a possible 60 during his six months in charge.
Recent heavy defeats included a 5-0 thrashing by Linfield and a 5-1 loss to Portadown.
It is believed Flynn will return to the helm on Monday, with his first game back in charge against Coleraine on Tuesday night.
