None of the Donegal side which triumphed in last September's All Ireland Final with Mayo was involved in the match.
Fermanagh managed a 1-06 to 0-04 interval lead, helped by a supberb 5th minute goal from Darryl Keenan.
Substitute Tomas Corrigan scored goal number two for Fermanagh.
Donegal found the net through Adrian Hanlon and Dermot Molloy.
There was some doubt prior to throw-in that the game could go ahead after thick fog enveloped the pitch.
However the referee gave the match the go-ahead after an inspection an hour before throw-in.
