Former world boxing champion Barry McGuigan whose daughter has battled leukaemia is calling on local sports fans to come out in force to support children and young people with cancer.

The former featherweight champion of the world said he is "proud" to launch CLIC Sargent's first Sportsman's Lunch, as the cancer charity supported his family when his daughter Danika, was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of eleven.

"I have first-hand experience of the vital support that CLIC Sargent provides for children and young people with cancer in Northern Ireland."

"They helped our family when my daughter Danika was diagnosed with leukaemia and I am incredibly proud to support them in my role as Patron."

In 2010 CLIC Sargent supported over 231 children and young people and their families in Northern Ireland, and they need your support to continue providing this vital care year on year.

McGuigan will host in the event at the Europa Hotel Belfast on 18 November.
