The win was Dunlop's eighth career victory on the Mountain course, and was a first win in 75 years in the larger bike class for his BMW team.

The Ballymoney rider twice broke the lap record during his opening ride, clocking average speeds of 131.73 and 131.89mph on his first two laps.

Dunlop eased off on the remaining laps as Bruce Anstey broke the record for a third time with a speed on 132.3mph on his final lap, finishing fourth behind third-placed Conor Cummins.
