Glenavon 1 - 3 Dungannon Swifts
Dungannon took a second minute lead through Dermot McCaffery when he swung on Neil McCafferty's corner.
They doubled their lead four minutes from the interval when Alain Emerson's simple flick nestled in just past the goalpost.
Only for an intervention by substitute Mark Turkington it would have been 3-0 to the Swifts on 53 minutes as Michael Ward went on a blistering run through the Glenavon midfield only to be stopped in his tracks by the left back.
Stuart King was roundly booed by his own fans after missing an absolute sitter from six yards.
James Costello beat his man twice down the left hand side and delivered a perfect ball for the ex Ballymena United man.
With only the goalkeeper to beat he hit his shot and had his arms up in celebration only to watch is shot go over the bar.
The third Dungannon goal came on 79 minutes when McCafferty found substitute Timmy Adamson and with a Cruyffesque turn he rifled the ball past Andrew Plummer from close range.
Glenavon pulled a goal back through debutante Joe Finlay when he was put through on goal by Trevor Molloy but by that stage it was too little, too late.
