Down opened their Power NI McKenna Cup campaign with a comfortable eight points victory over Armagh at Pairc Esler in Newry on Sunday.

Danny Hughes opened the scoring with a neat point in the third minute but Armagh replied to lead 0-2 to 0-1 through Aidan Forker and Micheal O'Rourke.

Kalum King then set up Ryan Brady for the opening goal of the game in the 14th minute and the home side added three more points to lead 1-5 to 0-2.

Marcus Miskelly tagged on the last point of the first half in stoppage time as Down went into the break leading by double scores, 1-7 to 0-5.

Armagh closed the gap to three on two occasions in the second half but a goal and a point from Conor Lavery in quick succession killed the game off.

Fermanagh 2-11 1-06 Antrim.
Monaghan 0-14 0-06 St Mary's.
Down 2-12 0-10 Armagh.
Derry 0-13 0-12 Cavan.
