New Derry City manager Declan Devine says he hopes he can take the club "upwards and onwards", despite the recent loss of some key players.

The 39-year-old was appointed as Stephen Kenny's successor last Saturday.

Former Candystripes player Devine has signed a two-year contract with Paul Hegarty as his assistant.

He admits he faces a tough task in replacing high profile players such as Eamon Zayed, but says with the help of some new signings he can bring success to the Brandywell in 2012.

"What we want to achieve this year is upward and onward from last year," Devine said.

"We've lost four of the top players, not only within the club but in the league, so it is up to me to get them replaced.

"We want to keep playing the brand of football we have been playing over these last few years. We want to get more people in the crowd and get the crowd together."

Derry City finished last year's campaign in third place.

The new season gets underway in March.
