Co Tyrone GAA club Derrytresk has spoken out to defend its players after violence broke out at the All-Ireland Junior semi-final on Sunday.

Manager of Co Kerry team Dromid Pearses claimed his players had their testicles tugged during the match in O'Moore Park in Portlaois, Co Laois.

A brawl then erupted and it is understood one of the players' cheekbone was broken during the fight and another was concussed.

Dromid's Michael Anthony O'Connell has called for Derrytresk to be thrown out of the competition, but the Tyrone team said it "deserved" to be in the competition.

In a statement, Derrytresk, who won the match, said they were "disturbed" to discover a "number of quite serious allegations" aimed at the club following Sunday's match.

"We believe that the referee and his officials were best placed to deal with all aspects of Sunday's game.

"We remain confident that the GAA itself is best placed to provide the correct channels to deal with all matters which may or may not arise from this game," it said.

GAA is awaiting the referee's decision before they opt for an investigation into the incident and Gardaí told UTV they are "aware of the incident and are waiting to talk to people about it".

I think that its a disgrace that the GAA suspended 7 players from the derrytresk team and that there was only one acctualy suspended after the match from the dromid pearses team. The GAA are a complete disgrace and are wrecking the future of the derrytresk youth with this 5 year ban. ive school now and have to leave but i will be back to complete this. Slan go foill!
