Derry got their Allianz National Football League Division One campaign off to a flying start with a thumping six point win over Tyrone at Celtic Park on Saturday night.
Damien Cassidy's team went three points ahead early in the contest through scores from Mark Lynch, Andrew McCartney and James Kielt.
Kyle Coney got Mickey Harte's side off the mark and the Red Hands fought back to 0-5 apiece after scores from Martin Penrose and Aidan Cassidy.
However, Derry pulled away again with unanswered points from Lynch, Eoin Bradley, Raymond Wilkinson and James and Charlie Keilt, before Penrose pegged the home side back to leave the score 0-9 to 0-6 at the break.
The Oak Leaf county extended their lead early in the second period with three points without reply, before Wilkinson effectively sealed the win with a 57th minute goal.
Colm Cavanagh grabbed a consolation goal for the visitors two minutes later, but the damage was done and Derry held out for a comfortable 1-18 to 1-12 win.
Elsewhere, Armagh lost out by a point to Meath in their division two opener in Navan.
Paddy O'Rourke's side went a goal down inside the first five minutes, Stephen Bray finding the net to put the home side into a commanding position.
To their credit Armagh fought back, exchanging points with the Royals to leave a three point gap at half time.
However, the Orchard county suffered a fresh setback after a goal from Jamie Queeney put meath six points clear, but again Armagh fought back, eventually leveling through a point from Steven McDonnell.
It wasn't to be for the visitors though, as David Bray dispatched two frees to hand Meath victory by 2-8 to 0-13.
In Sunday's division 1 game, Monaghan ran Cork close, but were eventually beaten by a single point by the Munster side.
In Division 2, Down dismantled Kildare in an impressive display, a Paul McComiskey goal helping them to an 11 point victory.
Donegal also proved too strong for Westmeath, John Joe Doherty's side battling to a seven point win.
In Division 3 there were wins for Antrim and Cavan, while Fermanagh were beaten by Offaly.
