Derry City were held by Cork to a one all draw at the Brandywell on Friday night.
Derry City 1 - 1 Cork City
On the plus side club officials will have been delighted with the attendance figures as over 3,500 spectators packed into the North-West venue to witness the opening game of the season in the First Division, the highest attendance of the night in the games that were played.
Despite going behind to an early Cork City goal the Foylesiders rallied well. They were slow to react to a quick throw in after just four minutes.
Davin O'Neill's dipping shot was too hot for Derry keeper Gerard Doherty to handle.
The home fans had to wait almost an hour for their side to pull level but they made their players aware they were still around cheering them on all the way to the 63rd minute, when Emmet Friars scored on his debut, heading home Ruairi Harkin's free kick.
