Irvine crashed approximately 50 kilometres into the stage and has been taken to hospital with a suspected fractured hip.
It is uncertain how long the injury will keep him out.
He is in the first year of his professional contract with American United Healthcare team.
The Newtownards man became the first Irishman to win a track cycling World Championship in more than a century in February when he won in Belarus.
