Crusaders kept their slim championship hopes alive following this well deserved victory at Institute.

Institute 1 - 3 Crusaders

Goals from David McMaster, Eamon Doherty and Martin Donnelly cancelled out Jordan Owens' own goal, as the Belfast men continued their recent good form.

The visitors had a super chance to take the lead on 19 minutes when Martin Donnelly's left wing centre found the lively David McMaster, but his goal bound header was tipped over by Alan Ryan.

On half-hour a great Shaun Holmes cross was nearly headed into his own net by Eamon Doherty, but fortunately for the midfielder his keeper Chris Keenan did well to divert the ball away.

The visitors deservedly broke the lead two minutes later when left-back Stephen McBride's effort at goal flashed across the box and McMaster ghosted in at the back post to fire home from close range.

Institute levelled things soon after when Holmes' terrific free-kick into the six yard box was flicked goalwards by David Ogilby, before flicking off the unfortunate Jordan Owens and into the net.

Right on the stroke of half-time a Declan Divin centre found an unmarked Kevin Ramsey, but the striker somehow headed over from close range.

Donnelly was unlucky not to give his side the lead again on 58 minutes when after skipping away from a few challenges, before seeing his left footed effort come crashing back off Ryan's bar.

They did however fire home a second on 62 minutes when Ross Arthur's knock down fell to Doherty, who coolly chested the ball down before firing home on the turn from close range.

Crusaders should have wrapped the points up soon after but Arthur somehow steered Donnelly's inch perfect centre wide when it looked easier to score.

'Stute were reduced to ten men on 72 minutes when Ramsey was sent-off for an off the ball incident with Doherty.

Both sides had men dismissed on 87 minutes when both Wray and Crues substitute Aaron Black were shown straight red cards from referee Raymond Crangle after they clashed off the field.

Right at the death a defensive mistake from 'Stute sub Jason Blackburn allowed Donnelly to skip away and calmly side foot home past the out-rushing Ryan.
