The defending league champions made short work of the 'Mallards, with George McMullan opening the scoring from the penalty spot after David McDaid had been fouled in the area.

Chris Curran made it 2-0 after 32 minutes when he gathered a long ball forward and outfoxed home keeper Fergal Murphy selling a dummy before sliding the ball under the stopper's body and into the net.

After earning the penalty earlier in the game, McDaid claimed his second assist of the afternoon in the 72nd minute when he played in Joe Gormley for a simple tap-in.

McDaid capped an impressive performance with a goal of his own four minutes later, lifting the ball over Murphy to complete the rout.

Elsewhere, on Saturday, Linfield moved up to third in the table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.

After the Blues had squandered a host of chances Ivan Sproule netted the crucial goal when he drilled the ball low past Alvin Rouse in the opening minute of the second half to seal an important win for manager Warren Feeney.

In the game at Seaview, Colin Coates was the hero as his goal helped his side earn a narrow victory over cross-city rivals Glentoran.

The Crues' captain netted a superb curling free kick in the 32nd minute to seal the points for his side, who had wasted a string of chances throughout the game.

Finally, top-flight new boys Institute picked up their second win of the league campaign with a 1-0 win over Warrenpoint Town at Drumahoe.

The only goal of the game came in the 43rd minute, when Declan McKeever's sweeping cross was headed home by Stephen Flynn.
