Clarke ended the week the best placed of the Northern Irish with a closing round of 68 for a total of -6 leaving him eight shots behind the German.
Clarke, a Ryder Cup Vice-Captain, opened with eight straight pars on the front nine before a bogey at the par four ninth.
He soon recovered with a birdie two a the long par three tenth hole and after a par at the eleventh he added another red number to his tally, picking up a shot at the twelfth taking advantage of the short par four.
Two more pars would follow before another birdie at the fifteenth and he closed out his round with three pars for a two under par round of 68.
Ballyclare's Gareth Maybin shot a final round 69 for a total of one under par leaving him a shot better than compatriot Michael Hoey.
The Shandon Park golfer endured a torrid day with a closing round of 75.
