Seven-time champion McRae is the most successful driver in the Circuit of Ireland's long history.

The Scottish rally driver told UTV he had fond memories of his victories in the 1980s.

"The Circuit of Ireland holds dear memories for me and the re-introduction of the night-time stage evokes special thoughts having battled rally greats such Billy Coleman, Russell Brookes, Pentti Airikkala and David Llewellin across the famous Circuit", he said.

This year's race will cover 15 stages that will wind their way through counties Down, Armagh, Louth and Monaghan, including an 18 mile night-time rally.

Event organiser Bobby Willis confirmed he also had a special treat for the thousands of spectators expected over the Easter weekend, as the 2010 Dakar winning VW Race Touareg will make its first appearance in Great Britain and Ireland since its stunning victory earlier this year.

"I am delighted to get the Volkswagen Touareg , which will be coming over to drive in all stages. This will be a sight for everyone who likes motorsport."

UTV have been covering the Circuit of Ireland Rally for the last 49 years and are now jumping onboard to help make this year's event even bigger and better.

"The Circuit of Ireland has legendary status across the rallying world and a strong and loyal following among thousands of rally fans", Jeremy Biggerstaff, Managing Director of UTV New Media, said.

"We believe that the Circuit of Ireland Rally and UTV Drive make a perfect partnership as we share the same vision for future growth throughout Ireland. Since we launched last Autumn we have been delighted with both public and commercial response to our website and partnerships like this reinforce our commitment to the local motoring community."

Sports Minister Nelson McCausland has also given his support to the Rally.

"Sports events, like the Circuit of Ireland, help promote a positive image of Northern Ireland to a wider audience and bring important economic benefits", he said.

Thousands of fans are expected to descend on Dundalk for the ceremonial start on Easter Saturday 3 April.
