Over the last two years in Belfast, Cheverie has played 110 games for the Giants scoring 50 goals and 82 assists.

He played an integral part in the Giants' latest success by scoring the winning penalty in the shoot out for the 2009/10 Playoff Championship.

Commenting on his move Cheverie said: "It's been a great two seasons here in Belfast. I have been fortunate enough to develop my hockey career and life skills during my time with the Giants.

"Winning three trophies, playing alongside so many great teammates and playing infront of the best fans in the UK has been a great honor.

"With success comes opportunity and at this stage of my career I want to explore these opportunities before they cease to exist.

"I have had many conversations with Todd and Doug about my decision to leave and they have been 100% respectful of my decision and they should be commended for that.

"I would like to thank everyone with in the Belfast Giants organization for their support and I wish them nothing but success.

"I will forever remember the Playoff Championship weekend, definitely the highlight of my career to date, what a pleasure to share it with the people of the Belfast Giants."

General Manager Todd Kelman added: "Evan has been a big part of this organisation and will always be part of the Giants history after scoring the playoff winning goal last season.

"He's a great player and an even better person. I wish him well next season and in whatever path he takes in the future."
