The Giants got off to the perfect start in this top of the table clash, the home team opened the scoring on the night through captain Colin Shields at 6.01 for his 17th goal of the season.
The hosts doubled their lead when Giants Man of the Match Craig Peacock found the net at 12.43.
Mario Larocque netted his first Panthers goal with 4'30" gone in the second period to pull the Panthers back into the game.
The visitors leveled the match on the night as GB International David Clarke found the net with 10 minutes left in the second.
Having been 2-0 down a strike from Panthers Man of the Match Sean McAslan at 35.07 turned the game around for the visitors to lead 3-2, McAslan's strike was his 100th Elite League goal.
However, this was short lived as Giants player/coach Steve Thornton netted his first goal of the season with four minutes left in the second to level the scores 3-3.
A powerplay strike from Michael Jacobsen with 1'30" left in the middle period gave the home side the initiative back to lead by a goal.
With only the one goal between the teams the third period was always going to be tight and that's exactly how it turned out.
With time running out Peacock netted a fifth for the home team with one and half minutes left in the match.
Then with the Panthers goaltender Kevin St.Pierre off, Colin Shields found the empty net with 15 seconds left in the game to give the home team a well deserved two points.
The Giants next home game is against the Hull Stingrays on Saturday November 28.
