An angry Paddy Barnes took to Twitter to criticise the way in which anti-doping measures were carried out against Northern Ireland's boxers at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The Belfast boxer was less than impressed at the timing of the drug testing, given the nature of boxing and the preparations involved.

"Anti-doping has decided to hit me with a urine test three days before the weigh-in and after dehydrating myself making weight!" Barnes tweeted.

"I can't even drink ..."

The Olympic bronze medallist, who picked up gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, also voiced concerns that being taken straight from training without being allowed to shower could lead to illness.

"Supposed to be fighting in a few days!" Barnes added.

"Could have tested me at a reasonable time of the day when I wasn't just finished training."

And apparently things went from bad to worse.

Barnes further tweeted that he had only been allowed to leave at 2am, but was then woken up at 7.30am for another test.

"This is some preparation for the games," he added, complete with expletive.

Teammate Michael Conlan also tweeted similar concerns about the experience.

Gerry u fool. Maybe you should read it again "three days before the weigh-in and after dehydrating myself making the weight". Do you actually know anything about boxing? They always crash the final week before a bout to make the weight limit, eating little and drinking nothing. Some have been known to wear sweat suits and run on the treadmill.

People dont realise the preparatian that is required in order to get ready for a fight. 8-10 weeks hard training ,diet, nutrition, game plans etc and when it comes down to the last couple of weeks before a fight the nerves start to set in, and thats when you dont need any upset or change to the routine . So go on Paddy and have a we moan and a gurn but please bring back the gold for the fans

Paddy I really really hope you aren't one of those social networkers who forget that their comments are seen by the world not just your mates. Honestly you'd be surprised how many idiots there are out there who think that. As someone said, stop embarrassing yourself with petulant and petty comments. Get on with the job.
