Ballymena Academy saw off a determined Belfast Royal Academy side in a tight game at Ravenhill to claim the Northern Bank Schools Cup on Wednesday.
Ballymena Academy 10-7 BRA
BRA opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Conor Spence's chip found Jordan Buchanan to cross for the first try of the game.
Ballymena though, hit back with a try of their own five minutes before the end of the first half.
Out-half Callum Patterson displayed great strength to hold off the BRA defence before skillfully feeding David Cartmill to cross in the corner.
Patterson added the conversion himself to draw the sides level at 7-7 and end the first half scoring.
Although the second half was a hotly-contested affair, there were few clear-cut scoring chances.
Fittingly it was Patterson who had the final say with a 30-yard drop goal to give Ballymena a 10-7 victory.
