The 25-year-old from Holywood hit a four over par 74 including five bogeys on the front nine to leave him 11 shots adrift of leader Martin Kaymer.

Graeme McDowell was further behind after a third round of 75 which featured seven bogeys.

Kaymer of Germany, who won the 2010 US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, said he is pleased to be sitting five shots in front of Rickie Fowler and Erik Compton.

He added: "It was good. I didn't play as good as the first two days, but I kept it together very well."
