Armagh manager Paddy O'Rourke, who was formerly in charge of the Mourne County, will come face to face with his opposite number James McCartan in Newry in the potential promotion decider.

O'Rourke captained Down to All-Ireland glory in 1991 when McCartan was among his team mates.

"I would consider James a personal friend", O'Rourke told UTV.

"He was a very mature 19-year-old. He was an exceptional player at that age and one of the main reasons why that Down team of the 90s went on to win All-Irelands."

"We're neighbouring counties. I know that both counties get on very, very well. The rivalry's there, but it's a healthy thing", O'Rourke added.

O'Rourke was delighted with his team's display in what was Armagh's third successive NFL win in Division Two last weekend.

The Orchard County have beaten Westmeath, Laois and Kildare after losing their opening game with Meath.

"They're a physically strong side all over the field", McCartan told UTV.

"Defensively they don't give much away, five points I think they gave away last weekend. Obviously they have a forward line with Steve McDonnell who can take scores from anywhere."

Down are flying high in Division Two and remain undefeated.

"I'm not sure how long it's been since Down have actually beaten Armagh, but obviously it's something we're going to try and rectify this weekend", McCartan said.

"I think for both teams it's going to be a great opportunity for them to get a match under their belts in front of a full house, and it's good preparation for the Championship ahead for Down having to go to Donegal and us having to go to Derry", O'Rourke told UTV.

Meanwhile, Galway face Tyrone in a Division One's relegation battle on Sunday.

The two managers will have plenty of knowledge of each other, with Mickey Harte facing Joe Kernan on numerous occasions when the Crossmaglen man was in charge of his native Armagh.

Galway collapsed against Kerry last weekend and lost Michael Meehan for the remainder of the league with a knee injury.

Harte has made five changes to his side, with Johnny Curran losing out to John Devine between the posts after a poor performance against Cork last week.

Joe McMahon makes a welcome return at wing-forward having completed his suspension, while Ciaran Gourley and Colm McCullagh are both in the starting line-up for the first time this year.

Monaghan face Derry in a repeat of last year's Ulster Championship clash.
