West Brom captain Chris Brunt will be sidelined for up to 10 weeks after scans confirmed he broke his ankle during the Barclays Premier League clash with Everton on New Year's Day.

The club confirmed that Northern Ireland international Brunt would undergo surgery on Friday.

Brunt had been showing signs of returning to his best form in recent weeks after struggling during the early part of the season.

The midfielder will be absent until the middle of March.

He is almost certain to miss Northern Ireland's friendly with Norway in February.

Striker Kyle Lafferty could also miss NI boss Michael O'Neill's first game in charge on 29 February, with his hamstring injury likely to take up to eight weeks to heal.
