Ireland's Andrew Bree has failed to advance to the semi-finals in the 200 metre breaststroke at the World Swimming Championships in Rome.
His time of 2:12:90 was well off the pace of his own personal best, and the Co Down swimmer finished in 30th place overall.
The 28-year-old swimmer's time was almost three seconds slower than the time that saw him smash the Irish record on his way to the Olympic semi-finals in Beijing last year.
"That wasn't my best performance out there," Bree acknowledged afterwards.
"It just didn't feel right from the start and felt a little too choppy. I'm going to go back now and analyse the race with my coaches and see what I need to do to get back down to my best again."
Meanwhile, Bangor swimmer Clare Dawson set a new Irish record, swimming the 100m freestyle in 56.32 seconds.
Dawson, Melanie Nocher, Niamh O'Sullivan and Nuala Murphy also smashed the Irish senior record in the women's 4x200m freestyle team relay by more than nine seconds to finish 15th overall in 8.09.34.
