Allen came under pressure from his opponent on Thursday evening, but dug deep to ensure his place in the next round - despite having lost three successive frames to go 5-4 behind.
But, fresh from recent controversy over his outspoken criticism of World Snooker boss Barry Hearn and a comfortable win over Ali Carter, Allen had looked sharper from the get-go.
The first frame may have been uninspiring, but it went Allen's way - as did the second, before Fu finally found some form to take the third and fourth.
Ultimately, it looked like it would be Wu who would progress, but a break of 66 from Allen saw the match go to 5-5 and into a decider.
Allen's relief was palpable as he secured the final frame and his semi-final place.
He will now face Walden in what will be his opponent's first outing in the semi-final stage, after he enjoyed a surprise 6-3 win over Shaun Murphy.
