Further services will be laid on to Gatwick, Luton, Southend and Stansted on weekday mornings and evenings, while there will be 3 flights to Manchester on Monday, Thursday and Friday - up from the current two daily flights.

The Edinburgh service will also be expanded from three flights to four on a Monday, while there will be an extra service on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing the number of flights to three.

Uel Hoey, business development director at Belfast International Airport, said the changes provide "stability for millions of Northern Ireland air travellers".

"We are delighted that the airline is again demonstrating a willingness to explore new horizons in support of Northern Ireland's economic growth."

The changes will come into effect at the beginning of the airline's winter schedule on 28 October.

Around a week earlier easyJet will also launch its first service from Belfast International Airport to Birmingham.

Ali Gayward, easyJet commercial manager, said, "Our aim has always been to make travel easy and affordable. We remain committed to Northern Ireland and we are adding these extra flights in response to increasing customer demand for easyJet services.

"Edinburgh and Manchester are important centres for the business community and also for leisure travellers, including people going there for our popular city breaks."

easyJet operates 13 flights daily from Belfast to London and is the only airline to operate from Belfast to Bristol.

Belfast International Airport isn't really worthy of that name anymore with only the odd service outside the UK but with regular services to five London airports from at least one of the two Belfast airports, Northern Irish residents will have even better accessibilty to low-cost flights through Stansted and Luton, holiday charters from Gatwick and connections to worldwide services through Heathrow. People in Belfast are no worse of than some of us in England who have to travel to London by road which may easily take longer than flying in from Belfast!

Domestic routes are very important for business links, this is why we have so many. The travelling public only want bucket and spade routes as has been proven in the past. All the routes you have mentioned have been tried and tested by airlines at the international and failed to attract enough passengers.

I think it's great that they have more flights to London and Manchester. They need some more late evening ones to Liverpool as well. John and Cate the reason that they have increased the number of flights to these destinations is due to the amount of people who commute to these locations due to business/ university and other reasons. Think how many Northern Irish people have moved to London, as well as other areas of the UK to attend University/ to find work, those people do want to visit home. I myself am in Liverpool and am I very frequent flyer with EasyJet and the plane is always full. Yes people may want to visit places like Flordia etc but maybe once a year not every month. So no it's not a joke, it's practical.
