A woman in her 80s has died following a serious, two-vehicle crash in Rathfriland.

The incident, which involved a red Rover 100 car and a lorry, happened on Downpatrick Street in the Co Down town at about 12.30pm on Tuesday.

Police later confirmed a woman from the local area had died.

Anyone who witnessed the crash has been asked to get in touch with the PSNI in Banbridge.

A spokesperson said: "Anyone that was in the area or anyone who noticed either vehicle around the time of the collision is asked to contact Banbridge Police Station or the Collision Investigation Unit in Steeple Police Station on the non-emergency number 101."
