The 39-year-old was injured in the incident on Sunday afternoon just before 4pm.

Her black Citroen C4 car was hit on the Upper Hightown Road by a small light-coloured car coming in the opposite direction.

It crossed the road into oncoming traffic hitting the woman's car and sending it into a field.

The woman had to be cut from her car by firefighters and was taken to hospital for treatment.

She remains in hospital, although police described her injuries as not life-threatening.

The hatchback car did not stop following the incident and on Wednesday, police issued an appeal for help to track down its driver.

Police can be contacted on the non-emergency number 101.
