Woman carjacked after Newry robbery

Two men who stole from a cash in transit van in Newry have hijacked a car from a woman in the Republic after their car was damaged during a getaway.

The robbery happened at at 11.20am on Friday in the Damolly Retail Park.

The two masked men, one of whom is believed to have had a knife, robbed the van and made off with a sum of money.

No-one was injured during the robbery.

However a woman was later attacked by the pair when they hijacked her silver Audi TT in the Edenappa Road just below the border from Newry.

The men abandoned a silver Mitsubishi Shogun they had been driving across the border when it was damaged while trying to be stopped.

Police are asking anyone with any information about this incident, particularly anyone in the Damolly Retail Park, Armagh Road, Newry or the Fiveways Filling Station carpark, Newry, around 11.00am to 11.30am on Friday to contact CID in Ardmore Police Station on 0845 600 8000.
