A man reported that the windows of his house in the Deacon Street area had been smashed at around 2am on Sunday.

The man and several children were inside at the time but were not injured.

SDLP Councillor Pat Convery, who is chair of the North Belfast Policing and Community Safety Partnership, condemned the perpetrators.

"This needless and wanton attack on the property of a Polish family in the Deacon Street area is utterly unjustifiable," he said.

"This must have been a very frightening experience for the family concerned and I have no doubt the wider community will rally behind them.

"Those behind such a cruel and reckless attack have nothing positive to offer those living in the area."

Local DUP councillor Guy Spence has also condemned the attack.

"It's came as a great shock to the local community," he said.

"This is something that the community don't want to see. For windows to be smashed on this street, incidents like this don't welcome young families into the community and undermine any efforts we try and make.

"I would encourage anyone with information to contact police as soon as possible."

Police have asked anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact them at York Road.

How can Councillor Spence call this a great shock to the community when it is happening time and again? It is another example of intolerance and racism and sectarianism in Northern Ireland. So Councillor, dont be that shocked.

terrible. hopefully the people living in the house are okay and realize the people who did this are idiots and not reflective of broader society.

Good on you Guy you are the first Unionist I have seen condemn any of these type of attacks. There are out of pure ignorance as i asume there was no other reason for this and the scum who commit this type of intimidation would only tell you that they are not wanted but can give you no other reason. Hope the PSNI get these low lifes.
