The alarm was raised in the Glenkeen area of Poleglass on Thursday afternoon.

Homes were evacuated and roads were closed as police and army bomb squad officers were called to the scene to carry out examinations on the suspicious object.

It was later declared to be a "viable pipe bomb type device" and was removed for further tests.

Police said the security alert came to an end at around 6.30pm and all roads have now been reopened, while all residents have been allowed to return home.
