Gardaí launched a major search operation on Thursday after men in combat gear were seen shooting into the air over the coffin of murdered Real IRA leader Alan Ryan, at his funeral in Donaghmede over the weekend.

Mr Ryan, who was 32, was shot dead in broad daylight by a gunman in the grounds of an apartment complex in Clongriffin on 3 September.

Fifteen men, one woman and a teenage boy were arrested as part of Operation Ambience. A total of fourteen people have now been released from police custody without charge.

Around 200 gardaí were involved in raids across counties Dublin, Meath and Kildare as they investigated the firing of and possession of guns, and dissident republican activity.

The trio are due before a special sitting of the Special Criminal Court on Saturday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
