Two men have been treated in hospital in separate stabbings on Saturday.

A 46-year-old man was attacked as he was walking home in the Waterford Street area of west Belfast at around 2.30am.

He was approached by a man who demanded his phone. When he refused, the attacker stabbed him in the chest and made off with the phone.

The injured man was taken to hospital where he is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

A police spokesperson said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Meanwhile police are searching for a man following a stabbing in Ballykelly, Co Londonderry.

The 34-year-old victim was stabbed in the thigh in the village at around 4.15am on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital for treatment where his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The attacker made off and police have appealed for anyone who knows of his whereabouts to contact them.
