Two released over police murder bid

A man and a woman arrested by detectives investigating the attempted murder of police officers, in which military-grade weapons were used, have been released.

Ten shots from a Kalashnikov-type gun hit two police cars which were towing digital signs through a residential area on the Crumlin Road, near the Ardoyne interface in north Belfast, shortly after 7pm on 5 December.The officers escaped injury and two weapons were later recovered during searches of the area.On Tuesday, detectives from Serious Crime Branch arrested a 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman in the north Belfast area.They were later released pending reports to the Public Prosecution Service.CHAR(13) + CHAR(10)
