Two men have been charged in connection with a dissident republican shooting in Garrison, Co Fermanagh.

The men, aged 26 and 32, have been charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

The 26-year-old man faces a further charge of using a firearm with intent to resist arrest.

The men are expected to appear at Dungannon Court on Wednesday morning.

Three men arrested after the shooting were released without charge on Monday.

One of the men released had been arrested by Irish police in Dooard, Co Leitrim.

The other two men were detained by the PSNI after police exchanged fire with suspected dissident republicans on Saturday night.

A Catholic police officer who lived in the village, but was not home at the time, was the target of the attack. It is understood an undercover police operation foiled the murder bid.

Within an hour of the alleged murder bid, a 400lb car bomb was abandoned at the Belfast headquarters of the Policing Board.
