Two men are due in court after a woman was threatened during an attempted armed robbery in Banbridge.

A man armed with an iron bar entered a petrol station in the Aughnacloy Road area at around 3.20pm on Friday.

He threatened the female member of staff and tried to make off with the till, but left empty handed.

Police investigating the incident stopped a vehicle nearby and arrested a man. Another man was detained close to the scene.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with attempted robbery, obstructing police, possession of a Class C drug and going equipped for theft.

A 25-year-old man is facing charges of attempted robbery and going equipped.

They are due to appear at Banbridge Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
