The searches took place at a number of properties in the Dundalk area in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The arrested men, one in his 30s and one in his 70s, are being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Drogheda Garda station.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: "The operation is not directly related to the investigation into the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe."

The police officer died after being fatally shot by a gang of robbers at the Lordship Credit Union near Dundalk last month.
